Ms. De Leon , Primary Teacher, Dragonfly Room

Victoria deLeon has come to Saipan from Springfield, Massachusetts. Originally from Texas, she has lived on and traveled through 6 of the 7 continents and is happy now to have the opportunity to live and teach on this lovely Pacific island very near the Equator.

She has primarily worked as an AMI Montessori teacher, a Head of Curriculum, and a Reading Coordinator (3-6 and 6-9). Ms. de Leon has also been a cross cultural trainer of youth who are preparing for service projects around the world. After retiring from decades of teaching, she landed her dream job at the Dr. Seuss Memorial Museum as the assistant manager of retail.

People she has been honored to meet include primatologist, Jane Goodall, musicians Seals and Crofts, Richard St. Barbe Baker, English forester and environmental activist, and Caesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer.

Finding inspiration from a myriad of sources, some of her favorite quotes are:

Lilo and Stitch: “Ohana! Ohana means family. No one is left behind and no one is forgotten.”

The venerable Dr. Seuss: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

The Baha’i Faith, (of which she is a follower): “… man should know his own self and recognize that which leadeth unto loftiness or lowliness, glory or abasement, wealth or poverty.”

Ms. Shanshan, Primary Teachers Aid, Dragonfly Room

Shanshan was born in Tianjin, China.  At the age of 17, she moved to Saipan with her dad and brother, joining her mother who had already been here for 10 years as a refugee.  Everyone in Shanshan's family is a refugee because they believe in Falun Dafa, an advanced practice of Bhudda's self cultivaton.

In 2009, Shanshan became a Falan Dafa believer and joined the Brilliant Star team.  Initially, she worked part time in the Toddler room.  Later, she transitioned into the Primary room as an assistant and Mandarin teacher, where she continues to work.

Ms. Sara was born and raised in New York, where she was homeschooled by her mother until she enrolled in a community college at age 16.  Her mother had a very similar teaching approach to Dr. Montessori's and how she raised her and her five other siblings.  While it was not the Montessori method, it inspired her to want to become a teacher.

Sara received her bachelor degree in Family Studies, Services to Children at Towson University out side of Baltimore City, Maryland.  She moved to Brooklyn, NY where she started teaching at a private preschool.  While living in Brooklyn, she received her Masters degree in Health and Physical Education from Brooklyn College.
