We would like to take this opportunity to give you some information about one of the CNMI’s most progressive laws, the Educational Tax Credit, and to ask for your help.
The Educational Tax Credit law (Public Law 10-73) came into effect November 12, 1997. This progressive statute allows individuals and businesses to make contributions to qualified educational institutions and to receive a tax credit for their contributions, up to $5,000 per year. This is not a tax deduction, but a tax credit.
What does this mean? Businesses may receive credit towards their monthly Business Gross Revenue Tax (BGRT), for up to $5,000 per year. As BGRT is due at the end of the month, we hope you will decide to direct your payment to Brilliant Star School.
Likewise, as an individual, you may make a contribution to Brilliant Star School, up to $5,000 per year, and have this amount credited, towards your Chapter 2 (wage and salary) taxes for that year. If you are due a tax rebate, your contribution will increase the amount of your rebate. If you owe taxes, your contribution will decrease the amount you owe.
It is a great way to help the school and it costs you as donor nothing! You direct your tax money towards Brilliant Star School instead of it going to the CNMI government.
Educational Tax Credit contributions have helped Brilliant Star School over the years to expand, upgrade, and maintain its classrooms and equip those classrooms with beautiful Montessori materials. They have also allowed us to maintain the tuition assistance program which guarantees us of diversity in our student population while at the same time keeping the tuition rates affordable.
We look forward to your support. Click on below link for a step by step checklist. Please call us if you have any questions. We are happy to answer any questions you might have.
